If you’re a regular MLW reader, you’ll know that bridal gowns, bridal style and general wedding dress advice is something I haven’t really got into. I think it’s because I bought a vintage wedding dress from London, and I never experienced looking for a wedding dress in Dubai. Luckily for you I’ve decided to change that.
I recently met with Mohammed, the owner of Contessa in Dubai. I had heard great things about Mohammed through some of my other vendors so I knew it likely that we’d get along well. As I walked into his showroom in JLT I was faced with rails of colourful ball gowns, and as I looked to my left I saw white wedding dresses hanging side by side. I always feel slightly envious when I see rich, heavy wedding dresses because I never got the chance to try one on. I think deep down if I did try one on, I’d like it too much and my ‘vintage’ vision would of slipped away. Of course I’m happy that I wore vintage, it was ‘me’… it was a little different to the usual sweetheart neckline that every bride admires so much.
Contessa has a lovely selection of dresses by American designer Justin Alexander, and a few floor sample dresses by Vera Wang and Reem Acra. Yes people, I said Vera Wang. He’s in partnership with Saks Firth Avenue, so that’s where they’ve come from. And right now he has a huge 50% sale. If I were you I’d make an appointment and take advantage of the big savings..
