Matt & Ezra's Dubai Wedding {Photography by Maria Sundin & Styling by Joelle}

Matt and the beautiful Ezra married last March. I was lucky enough to help them plan their big day, and take care of all the little details from wedding favors to flowers. My side kick Mona (stationery guru) helped me created beautiful stationery for the wedding, which Maria Sundin captured so well in her photographs. Ezra was the perfect bride, she’s elegant, tall, and wears her Ronald Joyce dress with perfection. With 60 guests at their wedding, it was small intimate and rather whimsical. The courtyard was transformed into a magical candle lit wonderland after the sun went down. Sometimes all you need are a few hanging candles to add that wow factor.

The wedding dress…

After a painstaking process with local dress suppliers in Dubai I decided to head to London. Three of my good friends (Kate, Fatuma and Abu) helped me through the painstaking process of finding a dress; I ended up getting one from J.S. Couture in London who really had a fantastic selection and amazing staff. (www.jscouture.com)

The bridesmaids…

I had three bridesmaids, they wore blush peach dresses all from Debenhams, they all wore nude shoes from Steve Madden.

The groom and his groomsmen…

They wore tailor made charcoal suits from 800suits on JBR with matching blush bow ties for the groomsmen and blush tie for the Groom all made by House of Moirai.

The venue…

The One&Only, on The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. Being only one flight away for all guests made Dubai the natural choice for the wedding. The venue at the One&Only had understated elegance and a magical outdoor courtyard that was ideal for a wedding party of our size.

The flowers and decor… words by Joelle.

Most of the guests flew in for the wedding so they wanted something that was a little ‘Dubai’. So we went for traditional dates.  I wrapped up boxes of local dates using brown craft paper and peach ribbon and lace. They were really lovely and added that extra touch to the table decor.

When I first met Matt & Ezra I knew they wanted to wow their guests. I imagined an enchanted garden surrounded by candles.  The venue is very pretty and romantic, so I just added to it. We used over a 100 candles around the venue and I uplit the surrounding trees with fairy lights and hanging candles.  Using a mix of hanging lanterns and candles gave it a whimsical feel, which looked magical when the sun went down. It was simple but very effective. I don’t like to over decorate when it’s not needed.
In the day time we covered the fountain in the courtyard with acrylic sheets for the ceremony, which was later removed for the wedding reception. The colour theme was soft peach and white lace, and we used white, peach and green florals in the centerpiece.
Ezra didn’t want to use too many roses so we used flowers such as Carnations, Hydrangeas, Garden Roses, with touches of green Amaranthus to create a whimsical effect. The Amarathus was actually out of season but luckily we sourced enough to add a touch to the centerpieces.
The starter and dessert were served as a buffet so we focused on decorating these areas, using the existing structures at the venue. We also created a structure to hang the cake which looked amazing.

Magical moments…
Seeing the vision come to life, it was truly breathtaking when we entered the courtyard for the dinner, and my Husband’s speech was just perfect.

Entertainment…

My husband arranged for traditional drumming by Dubai Drums which allowed the guests to get involved.

Advice do you have for future brides?
The last week leading to your wedding determines how you fit into your dress. Do everything you need to before this week. This week should be about you. Most brides try to lose weight before the wedding, this week can take it further than intended. If you want to gain weight (as I had hoped) you might get very disappointed.
