Her lovely wedding & my lovely dress

I’m finally home in Dubai after a week in the UK. My best friend Rachel got married to her boyfriend of 10 years, Steve.  They got married in a beautiful manor house called Coombe Lodge in Somerset, England.

It was a gorgeous sunny day and I had the honor of being 1 of 4 bridesmaids. The theme was turquoise and white, it was very clear from the start that turquoise was going to be featured; it’s been Rachel’s favorite colour since she was about 11 years old. It was also fantastic to be reunited with old school friends who I hadn’t seen for years. Being a bridesmaid for the first time made me even more excited about being a bride!
While I was in the UK I planned to a day to shop for the one most important elements of the wedding… my wedding dress! I’d been planning this day since the moment I got engaged, I think it’s the first thing most girls think about after they say ‘yes’.
I always knew I wanted a long dress with lace detail but after lots of research online I realized vintage was the only option for me. Unfortunately vintage wedding dresses are not available in Dubai so I had to wait until my return to London to hunt one down.
My mum and younger sister joined me in London, we had a full day of appointments and by 6pm I knew I had found the one, it was the 3rd dress I tried on in the first shop. Elizabeth Avey Vintage, a beautiful studio filled with wonderful vintage wedding dresses ranging from the 1920s to the 1970s. I felt like I had gone to wedding dress heaven.

To be honest it’s quite overwhelming, the first time you step into a bridal shop, the feeling of ‘I’m a real bride’ hits you and the excitement sinks in. I was so lucky to have my 2 favorite girls with me; we had the perfect day shopping while stopping for lunch and a glass of bubbly. I hope every bride to be has as much fun as I did!
I’d also like to say that I visited two other amazing shops, The Vintage Wedding Dress Company and Heavenly Brides in London, both unique in their own ways and highly recommended to anyone looking for a vintage wedding dress.
Oh and I’d love to show you my dress but there is a possibility that my fiancé may take a peel so you will have to wait until January 2013!
