Real Wedding: Kathryn & Tristan {Goldfish Photography and Video}

It’s been a while since we’ve swooned over a lovely real wedding here on MLW and thankfully Goldfish Photography and Video are always on hand to give us our fill of gorgeousness. Quick shoutout to the lovely Claire who just given birth, we salute you and wish you all the happiness in the world with your new addition! Kathryn and Tristan (Now officially The Lowes!) got married at one of our favourite venues The Waldorf Astoria on the Palm Jumeirah on 30th October last year and worked with a lot of our regular vendors to make their big day happen. Let me hand you over to Kathryn to tell you the details starting with their very sweet engagement story…just wait till you read the part about handwritten notes…
The proposal came out of the blue on August 21st 2014, after I came back from a visit home to England. Tristan thought it would be lovely to go to our favourite restaurant, Nobu for a ‘date night’ as I was back in Dubai. Before the dessert, Tristan got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. A man normally you can’t stop from talking just managed to get the words out, he knew he would probably be like that, so he had a red box brought to the table with 100 hand written notes of all the things he loved about me. The ring is stunning and he designed the ring himself at Cara.

The Planning process…We did all the planning together, being in the events industry anyway I was very use to the process of events and dealing with suppliers. We tried to get as much done in advance as possible but something’s just can’t be done until closer to the time.

Budget….We wanted to keep below AED 150,000 which I think we managed!
The Dress + Accessories…The dress was made by Abella’s Boutique, Dubai, which I designed myself. The veil was from Vanila Wedding Boutique and diamond earrings from Cara. Finishing touches of the dress were rescued by House of Moirai.

Finding the dress… The hardest and most worrying thing. There is very little choice here in Dubai for wedding dresses, and I didn’t have time to get back to the UK. In the end I decided to get it made as nothing really jumped out at me.
Groom’s attire… Tuxedo was made by Knot Standard with bow ties and pocket square.

The Readings + Music…Captain Corelli’s Mandolin and On Your Wedding Day. The music was the traditional wedding march.
Beautiful bridesmaids…I had one bridesmaid as we tried to keep budgets to a minimum and the dress was made by House of Moirai. The flower girl’s dress was from Debenhams which my Mum bought in England and her accessories were from Claire’s. She decided she didn’t fancy walking down the aisle so sat down right in the middle!

The Flowers… Vintage Bloom did a great job with the flowers, we were very pleased with them.

The Cake… It was a cake of cheese and was created by the hotel. The design wasn’t exactly what I had in mind and showed them pictures of but it tasted great and there was barely anything left! We both aren’t big cake eaters and thought the cheese could also double up as a snack throughout the evening for our guests.

The Details + Décor… We had big vases and candles on the balcony which were also supplied by Vintage Bloom. The guestbook was a canvas picture I designed. We had a great band called Sway, from the UK, who I have worked with in the past and are a favourite party band of Richard Branson. Our favours were made by Papa Bubble and went down very well with the guests. Party Social supplied our big ‘I DO’ letters for in the cocktail area. The table plan was a photo frame on an easel made in Satwa. All the wedding stationary I designed myself and printed here in Dubai.

Advice for other couples… Keep it simple and don’t worry about the minute details, as long as the food is good and the drink is flowing all will be fabulous. I would definitely hire an event manager for the day of the event. Take some time alone with each other after the photos because you don’t feel like you have seen each other all day. This advice was given to us by our Photographers from Goldfish and we really appreciated this time.
Ahhh so lovely! Thank you to Kathryn and Tristan for taking the time to share all the details of their lovely wedding day, sounds (and looks!) like a very happy couple indeed.
Back tomorrow lovelies,
