As a bride we get so caught up in the chaos that is planning our wedding that we forget it is not just about us. In fact, I would say that the wedding day really is all about the Mother of the Bride. Yes it’s her day. It’s the day she’s giving her little girl away. No matter how grown up you think you might be you are still the tiny tot running around the garden with your hair all awry. And now you’re getting MARRIED. Whaaaaat.
Saying all this, I wanted to write a letter to my Mum to thank her for being the best Mother of the Bride a girl could ask for. I think my sisters would agree that we massively lucked out! Can I get a hand for how gorgeous this woman is? You did it Mama – three daughters under new management 🙂
I wanted to write this to show my Mum how much I appreciate her on my wedding day and always. Yes it’s a little bit cheesy but hey I’m a cheesy kind of person and I love telling those I love how much they mean to me. Here goes.
A Letter to My Mother of the Bride
Dear Mama –
Thank you for teaching me that no matter how gloomy things get, things always “could be worse” and you should never stop smiling. I always get told I am an irrationally optimistic person and I take it as a compliment and credit to the way you raised me.
Thank you for all the late night talks where we put the world to rights over too much Sauvignon Blanc. On that note thank you for teaching me that life is too short to drink cheap Chardonnay.
Thank you for putting up with me and my problem child ways as a confused college kid. Seriously, kudos – I know it wasn’t easy.
Thank you for giving me the incredible opportunity of living in Dubai and being able to travel so much while growing up. It has made me who I am and I never take one single piece of that for granted.
Thank you for always keeping it real and telling me when I’m being self-indulgent. For all the days when I said I was too sick to go to school and you made me go anyway. It has made me a better person!
Thank you for always believing in me and supporting me in whatever I choose to do. From wanting to study law to being a professional hippy you are always my biggest cheerleader and taught me to do whatever makes me happy.
Thank you for being honest when you didn’t like my outfits. “Hmmm that’s nice darling” – I feel like I have much better fashion sense because of it!
Thank you for being my roomie, whether in Murjan Tower or Belle Mare Plage we have always made a great team. Even if you do have to tell me when you need quiet time 🙂
Thank you for cooking the best Lasagne known to man. And salmon and salad. And soup. Basically thank you for feeding me.
Thank you for being my favourite travel companion. Only you could make visa runs a fun experience that still make me laugh out loud to think of.
Thank you for buying me the most beautiful wedding dress. The feeling of putting on for the first time and being able to share that with you is one of my favourite memories of my wedding day.
Thank you for walking me down the aisle. It means so much to me to have you by my side. And also thank you for helping me not to cry so I didn’t ruin my make-up!
Thank you for showing me what it means to be strong. You are an absolute rock and never forget it.
Thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for being my Mum, now and always. I love you!
